It was on 10 May 1923 that Soviet diplomat, Vatslav Vorovsky was assassinated in a Lausanne hotel restaurant when he was shot by Maurice Conradi, who had emigrated from Russia to escape from the Bolshevik Revolution when most of his family had been killed. The Swiss were sympathetic to his situation and he was acquitted of the murder.
