Club Career

Club(s) Deane turned out for Leeds Boys Clubs before joining Doncaster Rovers FC on 14 December 1985, and after 66 league appearances, scoring twelve, Deane joined Sheffield United FC for £30,000 on 19 July 1988. He completed 197 league appearances, scoring 82, before moving to Leeds United AFC for £2.9 million on 14 July 1993 (138 league appearances, 32 goals). Deane returned to Sheffield United FC on 29 July 1997 for £1.5 million (24 league appearances, eleven goals), after which Deane joined Graeme Souness' SL Benfica in Portugal on 15 January 1998 for £1 million (seventeen league appearances, seven goals). He returned within ten months when he joined Middlesbrough AFC on 16 October 1998 for £3 million (87 league appearances, 18 goals), Leicester City AFC in 2001 (52 league appearances, nineteen goals) and West Ham United FC in 2003 (26 league appearances, six goals). Dean returned to Leeds United AFC in 2004 (31 league appearances, six goals). Onto Sunderland AFC in 2005 (four league appearances), and Perth Glory FC in Australia in 2005 (five league appearances, one goal), before ending his career with a third stint with Sheffield United FC (three league appearances). He hung up his boots in 2006 having scored 194 league goals in 653 appearances.
