According to the 1871 census, Leonard is the second of four children to Colonel Josiah and Alice Emma (née Atkinson), living at Southampton Lodge in Highgate with nine servants. His father is a practising barrister.

 

According to the 1881 census, twelve year old Leonard is a pupil in Woodcote House School in Windlesham.

 

According to the 1891 census, Leonard is an Oxford student, he still lives at home at Southampton Lodge with his parents and younger sister. They have eight servants.

According to the Post Office Directory for London, in 1895, Leonard Rodwell is working as a barrister at 2 Paper Buildings in Temple, with his father.
And according to passenger lists, Leonard is one of seventeen who went to Madeira on 30 September 1896 on the Bulawayo.
Then according to Rate Books, between 1897 and 1900, Leonard is living at 19 Buckingham Palace Road, as stated by his marriage register. And at 62 Chester Square in Knightsbridge after 1900, he also has a property at 62 Ebury Mews.

 "WILKINSON―BAXENDALE
"The marriage of Mr Leonard Rodwell Wilkinson, the eldest son of Col. J. Wilkinson, of Southampton Lodge, Highgate, with Laura Mary, elder daughter of Joseph Baxendale, Esq., of Hursley Park, Hants, took place on Saturday last in St. Peter's Church, Eaton-square, which was effectively decorated with white flowers and palms. The bride entered the church at two o'clock, on the arm of her father, who afterwards gave her away, and was met by six bridesmaids. The bride's gown was of white satin, with Court train of brocade (borne by the children). She wore a wreath of orange blossom and tulle veil, and carried a lovely bouquet of lilies of the valley. The bridesmaids were in charming dresses of white satin, made rather long, with yokes trimmed with lines of crystal paillettes, and lace over the shoulders. Their white hats were ornamented with lover's knots in satin, and pink roses, and they carried bouquets of pink and white roses. The clergy were the Rev. J. G. Young, Vicar of Hursley, and the Rev. L. R. Phelps, Fellow of Oriel College, Oxford. Mr and Mrs Baxendale afterwards entertained the numerous relations and friends of both families at their house in Brook-street, Grosvenor-square, and Mr and Mrs Leonard Wilkinson started later for Brussels."

According to London Electoral Registers, in 1900, Leonard Rodwell is living at 62 Chester Square, and the Post Office Directory again states him as working as a barrister at 2 Paper Buildings in Temple, with his father.
And according to the 1901 census, Leonard is a Barrister at Law and is married to Laura M. with one son, Harold. They are still at 62 Chester Square in Knightbridge with five servants.
Then according to the 1902 Court Guide & County Blue Book, Leonard Rodwell is working as a barrister at 29 King's Bench Walk in Temple, working the Oxford Circuit, Stafford and Worcester Sessions and Birmingham Assizes.

Then according to the Post Office Directory for London, in 1905, Leonard Rodwell is still working from 9 King's Bench Walk.

  "Mr. Leonard Rodwell Wilkinson has been elected to the seat on the board of the Imperial Continental Gas Association, rendered vacant by the death of Mr. Clarence Pigou." - The Daily News, Monday, 13 November 1905.
  According to the 1911 census, Leonard, still a barrister, but now a director of gas companies, still married, now have a second son, Arthur, they now live with five servants at Emery Down in Lyndhurst in the New Forest.

Obituary

 "A MAGISTRATE FOUND SHOT.
"Mr. Leonard R. Wilkinson, a Hampshire magistrate, of Emery Down, Lyndhurst, was found dead in a shed adjoining his home yesterday morning. A gun was lying by his side, and part of his head was blown away. Deceased, who had been in ill-health for some time, was a fine cricketer and footballer in his day, and at one time kept goal for the Corinthians."

"With a gun by his side, Mr. Leonard R. Wilkinson, J.P., of Lyndhurst, in the New Forest, was, during Sunday night, found dead in a shed adjoining his residence. The deceased gentleman, who had been a prominent athlete and took a leading part in local sport, had suffered from sleeplessness, and spoke of a dread of becoming a permanent invalid. A verdict of "Suicide whilst of unsound mind" was returned by the Coroner's jury." - The Western Gazette, Thursday, 13 February 1913.
