Notes
Reports
of England's first match of the 1900-01 season against
Ireland still opened with the fact that the match was the twentieth
meeting between the countries, with a subsequent set of results.
However, Sheffield's Daily Telegraph ended the match report with an
Association International Table (left). Later in the month, in
the build-up to the grand match between England and Scotland, the
same newspaper reported on the story of the 'International
Tournament' of the five matches played thus far.
And
then stressing the importance of the final match by regarding the
eventual winners as 'National Champions'.
