England: the road to the Final in 20

19

Background
The UEFA Nations League was unanimously adopted at the XXXVIII Ordinary UEFA Congress in Astana on 27 March 2014.

The format of the UEFA Nations League will feature promotion and relegation. The 55 European national teams have been divided into four leagues in accordance with UEFA's national association coefficient rankings on 11 October 2017.

League A includes the top-ranked sides, including England, and League D includes the lowest.

Teams will be split into four groups of three, with the group winners then contesting the UEFA Nations League Finals (semi-finals, third-place match and final) in June 2019 to become the UEFA Nations League winners. One host country will be appointed in December 2018 from among the finalist teams.

The draw took place on 24 January 2018 at The SwissTech Convention Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland. League A was drawn by Deco.

Notes In 2019, the group's bottom teams were relegated to League B, Croatia, Germany, Iceland and Poland. However, in re-formatting for the 2021 tournament, it was decided by UEFA that League A will expand from twelve to sixteen teams, meaning those four named countries are no longer relegated, and are now League A countries again.
