Diary

Tuesday, 5 May 1992 - Graham Taylor names two squads for England's next two friendly matches. He has named an initial 24-man squad for the match against Hungary next week, with an additional four players added to the same squad to take on Brazil a week later. Taylor revealed his ruthless streak when he dropped a dozen of his players.
In addition, England have been selected to host the 1996 European Championship Finals by the UEFA Executive Committee at a meeting in Lisbon.

Thursday, 7 May 1992 -
Des Walker signs for US Sampdoria for £1.2million.

Friday, 15 May 1992 -
Two days before England meet Brazil at Wembley in a final home warm-up, Liverpool's Rob Jones, Taylor's expected first choice at right back, pulls out of the squad with shin splints. The 20-year-old had made only one international appearance, against France in a February friendly, but had given a cultured performance far beyond his years.
