Diary

Monday, 6 May 2002 - There are nine British-based players in the 23-man squad named by Martin Olsen. The Danish coach was scheduled to name his squad last Thursday, but postponed those plans because of the number of injuries sustained by his key players. Martin Jørgensen, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Stig Tøfting, Thomas Helveg, Thomas Gravesen, Claus Jensen, Allan Nielsen, Jan Michaelsen and Martin Laursen are all sidelined or recovering from injury.

Monday, 3 June 2002
-
A Jon Dahl Tomasson double in their 2-1 win over Uruguay put Denmark in pole position of Group A after the opening round of matches.

Tuesday, 4 June 2002 - Peter Madsen was injured in training today, twisting his right knee during shooting practice.

Thursday, 6 June 2002
-
Salif Diao scored a wonderful goal, then saw red as Senegal displayed the good, the bad and the ugly during their 1-1 draw with Denmark. Diao's 52nd minute goal was the fiftieth goal of the World Cup. However, he conceded the first half penalty from which Jon Dahl Tomasson scored and he was sent off in the 79th minute after a awful challenge on Rene Henriksen.

Tuesday, 11 June 2002
- Holders France crashed out of the World Cup after losing to Denmark in Incheon as David once again outsmarted Goliath in the 2002 Finals. Goals from Dennis Rommedahl and Jon Dahl Tomasson ensured that France became the first World Cup champions since Brazil in 1966 to fail to reach the second round. Denmark's win sees them finish top of Group A, which means that they will meet the runners-up of Group F in Nigata on Saturday.
