Sunday, 22 December 2002 - Hakan Sukur faces eight weeks on the sidelines after breaking his leg in a training-ground accident. The Turkish World Cup star had recently recovered from a groin injury and hoped to make his Rovers debut against Manchester United at Ewood Park this afternoon. Sükür joined the club from Parma earlier this month.

Friday, 21 March 2003 - Turkey coach Senol Gönes names a 24-man squad.  Blackburn Rovers pair Tugay and Hakan Sükür have been called up for what could prove a crucial game for both teams. Sükür returns after seven months out with various injuries. He proved instrumental in Blackburn Rover's win over Arsenal over the weekend, voted man of the match. The squad contains few surprises. Deniz Baris, a 26-year-old defender at successful club Gençlerbirligi, is included. Veterans such as Abdullah Ercan and Arif Erdem are out, as is Fenerbahce defender Umit Ozat. Manchester United target Nihat Kahveci, second-top scorer this season in La Liga with Real Sociedad, is included.
