Notes
Saturday,
6 November 2010 - A report from L'Equipe
indicates that Laurent Blanc is ready to use France's forthcoming friendly
against England to experiment with his squad somewhat, with the Auxerre duo of
Cedric Hengbart and Benoit Pedretti, as well as Nancy's Julien Feret, included
in 'Le President's' pre-selected panel.
The friendly encounter on November 17 provides Blanc with the opportunity to mix
his squad up against high quality opponents in the knowledge that defeat will
not be especially hurtful, and it seems that les Bleus' boss is prepared to take
full advantage.
There is set to be heartbreak for right-back Hengbart, however, as his excellent
form with AJA will not be rewarded with a cap due to an injury that will keep
him out for the entirety of November.
Pedretti, who has 22 appearances to his name from 2002-2005, is also carrying a knock
and will miss the Burgundy club's trip to Sochaux on Saturday, but he is poised
to be named in the panel that travels to Wembley.
Playmaker Julien Feret has been one of the outstanding talents in Le Championnat
this term, despite turning out for a relatively mediocre ASNL side. Formerly of
Reims, the attacker was tipped to join the squad to face Romania and Luxembourg
in the autumn but was ultimately overlooked.
While there is set to be some experimentation in attack, Blanc has previously
indicated his desire to keep his rearguard as steady as possible to allow them
to build an understanding.
Wednesday,
10 November 2010 - Laurent Blanc has recalled Barcelona defender Eric
Abidal for next Wednesday's friendly against England.
Abidal, 31, was one of five players summoned by the French
Football Federation to explain widespread unrest after their woeful World Cup
campaign. He escaped without sanction, but other players questioned - such
as Manchester United's Patricera and Chelsea's Nicolas Anelka - remain
overlooked.
Four English Premier League players are in Blanc's
22-man squad. They are Arsenal's right-back Bacary Sagna, left-back Gael
Clichy, midfielder Samir Nasri, along with Chelsea forward Florent Malouda.
Abidal's reprieve comes after a string of solid
performances for the Spanish league champions. Bordeaux captain Alou
Diarra is also named in the squad, despite currently serving a six-game domestic
suspension for pushing a referee in a league match at Auxerre last month.
Bayern Munich playmaker Franck Ribery is another high-profile absentee from the
French squad, though he is recovering from torn ankle ligaments and is not yet
fully fit to play.
Monday,
15 November 2010 -
Tottenham defender Younes Kaboul has been drafted into the France squad.
The 24-year-old has been called up by Laurent Blanc as cover for Roma
centre-back Philippe Mexes, who picked up a calf injury at the weekend.
Kaboul made 18 appearances for France Under-21s but has yet to earn his first
cap at senior level.
