Diary

Sunday, 13 May 2012 - Johan Elmander is doubtful for the Euro 2012 finals after sustaining a foot injury playing for his club side Galatasaray yesterday. An x-ray showed he sustained a fractured metatarsal in his right foot.  He will be examined by team doctors before Erik Hamren announces his squad in Stockholm tomorrow.

Monday, 14 May 2012 - Erik Hamrén has announced his 23-man squad in the wake of some mixed injury news.  While Johan Elmander is expected to recover, John Guidetti is excluded due to an inflamed nerve in a thigh muscle.  Markus Rosenberg will deputise, the 29-year-old returning to end a three-year absence from the national team.  Jonas Olsson is in line to make his maiden appearance at a major international tournament. The 29-year-old has blossomed under the stewardship of new England manager Roy Hodgson this season and was delighted to have been given the chance to add to his six international appearances. "I'm very happy of course, it is a childhood dream to get to play a major tournament."
Overall, Hamrén has plumped for a blend of youth and experience, with some familiar faces completing the lineup. Olof Melberg is set for his fourth UEFA European Championship, while Anders Svensson, Kim Källström, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Andreas Isaksson and Christian Wilhelmsson will complete a hat-trick of appearances.

Wednesday, 30 May 2012 - Sweden recorded a comfortable 3-2 victory over Iceland, with early goals from Zlatan Ibrahimović and Ola Toivonen putting the hosts in the driving seat. Kolbein Sigthorsson pulled one back before half time, but Christian Wilhelmsson put the match to bed shortly before the final whistle. Hallgrimur Jonasson grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors in added time.

Tuesday, 5 June 2012 - Sweden overcame a tough challenge from Serbia to claim a win in their last friendly match before Euro 2012, Ola Toivonen pounced on a goalkeeping error to put them ahead after 23 minutes, but Neven Subotić replied within three minutes.  Zlatan Ibrahimović, though, had the last word, converting from the spot seven minutes after the break.

Thursday, 7 June 2012 - Johan Elmander is expected to resume full training tomorrow as he attempts to recover from a foot injury - but he remains a doubt for their game against Ukraine on Monday. Coach Erik Hamren says: "So far it's looking good and he's very positive."

Monday, 11 June 2012 - Sweden open their Finals account with a loss to Ukraine, despite Ibrahamović opening the scoring.

Wednesday, 13 June 2012 - Captain Zlatan Ibrahimović misses part of team training today with a sore thigh. However, the camp insist they aren't too worried about the problem and expect him to be fit for the England match.
