Diary

Sunday, 13 May 2012 - Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has been selected as part of Italy's provisional 32-man squad for Euro 2012. The squad is expected to be trimmed to 23 players later this week.

Monday, 28 May 2012 - Leonardo Bonucci has been included in the Euro Squad despite being named in the latest match-fixing investigation to engulf the country. Though Domenico Cristico has been left out of the squad, after he was questioned by police for the same reason. Andrea Ranocchia and the Siena striker Mattia Destro were also left out following the cull.  Antonio Di Natale survived, despite not playing under Cesare Prandelli and is one of five forwards in the squad.  Antonio Cassano has also made Prandelli's squad after coming back from minor heart surgery. Manchester City's controversial forward Mario Balotelli is also included.

Friday, 1 June 2012 - Italy's final preparation ends in heavy defeat in Zürich, to the Russians, who won 3-0.

Monday, 4 June 2012 - Andrea Barzagli will miss the group stage after being sidelined for twenty days with a calf strain he sustained in Italy's loss to Russia. A decision on whether he will stay with the squad will be taken this week. His condition will be monitored until Friday, when - subject to approval from UEFA - Cesare Prandelli will make a decision on whether to replace him or not.

Sunday, 10 June 2012 - Cesc Fàbregas earned the defending champions a point in Gdansk by cancelling out substitute Antonio Di Natale's goal for Italy.

Thursday, 14 June 2012 - Mario Mandzukić found a chink in the armour of Cesare Prandelli's composed Azzurri side as Croatia battled back for a hard-earned point.

Sunday, 17 June 2012 - Andrea Barzagli has given Cesare Prandelli a boost by declaring himself fit and available for Italy's final group match with Republic of Ireland.

Monday, 18 June 2012 - Antonio Cassano and Mario Balotelli scored to secure victory for the Italians against Ireland, which, combined with Spain's win in Gdansk, put them in the last eight.

Tuesday, 19 June 2012 - Parma have announced that Juventus have re-signed Sebastian Giovinco for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old, who was co-owned by both clubs, will now return to Turin after the Serie A champions decided to purchase the remaining 50 per cent of the striker's economic rights one year after selling them for €3 million. Giovinco's signing comes on the same day that the Bianconeri purchased the remaining half of Emanuele Giaccherini's contract in a €4.25m deal.

Wednesday, 20 June 2012 - Giorgio Chiellini will sit out Sunday's quarter-final against England in Kyiv after a scan confirmed the 27-year-old had strained a muscle in his left thigh.

Friday, 22 June 2012 - Thiago Motta is a slight doubt for the quarter-final because of a hamstring strain.
