Diary

Thursday, 16 May 2024 - A press conference was held at the FFBiH headquarters in Sarajevo, where coach Sergej Barbarez announced the squad for the upcoming friendly matches with England and Italy next month.

Friday, 24 May 2024 - Sergej Barbarez has issued three new call-ups to the squad. Antalyaspor's loanee midfielder, Dario Šarić, who previously made a single appearance in 2022, Radomlje's Madžid Šošić, and Osijek's Nail Omerović, who both step up from the under-21's. A new addition to the coaching staff is fitness coach Marko Čavka.

Monday, 27 May 2024 - Sergej Barbarez has invited two more players into the squad. Ankaragücü's defender Nihad Mujakić, who has played twice previously for the senior side, and Ferencváros midfielder, Stjepan Lončar, who has appeared in eleven matches.

Wednesday, 29 May 2024 - The squad of players began gathering at Butmir Ilidža, and the players arrived for the preparations in high spirits and full of enthusiasm. They also had their first training session with the new coaching staff. The players will train in Sarajevo until Sunday, when they travel to Newcastle upon Tyne.

Thursday, 30 May 2024 - The squad continue to train Butmir. Sergej Barbarez and his staff expressed satisfaction with the players' form and effort during training. The players showed a high level of professionalism and readiness to accept all the tasks set before them. There's a positive atmosphere among the players and staff, and even though these are friendly matches, everyone is motivated for both games against top-tier world football teams.

Friday, 31 May 2024 - The team had another intense training session in Sarajevo today. Preparations are going according to plan, and the atmosphere in the team is at a high level, thanks to the players' enthusiasm and dedication.

Saturday, 1 June 2024 - Today's training session is the last in Sarajevo before they travel to Newcastle upon Tyne tomorrow morning. Coach Sergej Barbarez and his staff are pleased with the players' commitments and the team is ready.

Sunday, 2 June 2024 - The team arrive in Newcastle upon Tyne, withouth coach Sergej Barbarez, who complained at feeling unwell and remained in Sarajevo. The press conference was held at St. James' Park by Ninoslav Milenkovic and captain Edin Džeko. “We tried to prepare as well as possible in the short time we had before the match. We've done a lot of analysis and had plenty of discussions among ourselves. We'll try to present ourselves in the best possible light and attempt to execute all the tactical plans we've set. Every player in the team is here for a reason, regardless of their age. We believe in the project and everyone involved in this team,” said Ninoslav Milenković. As expected, the most media attention was drawn by Edin Džeko, who has had much success playing in England: “This is a whole new team with many young players, and everyone needs a certain amount of time. It's not easy to play against England in England and against Italians in Italy. We need to be realistic and acknowledge that these teams are favorites to win the European Championship, especially our opponents tomorrow. For us, the most important thing is for the players to get familiar with the new coach and staff's way of working in order to reach a satisfactory level. Even now at 38, just as before, playing for the national team is a great pride and dream for me. As long as I'm needed by the coach and his staff, I'm here.”
