Diary
Thursday, 29 August 2024, 1.00pm -
Heimir Hallgrímsson has included uncapped Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer in his first squad for the upcoming Uefa Nations League matches against England and Greece.
England-born McAtee is named in the 23-man squad after receiving international clearance from FIFA. The 22-year-old has featured in both of Leicester's Premier League games this season after scoring six goals last season to help them win the Championship title.
Hallgrímsson, a shock choice to succeed Stephen Kenny as boss, is also able to call upon captain Séamus Coleman and Brighton striker Evan Ferguson as they have recovered from injury.
Uncapped Bristol City goalkeeper Max O'Leary is also in the squad. Cardiff City striker Callum Robinson, who scored in the South Wales derby at the weekend against Swansea City, comes back into the squad as well as Sunderland midfielder Alan Browne. Long-term international absentee Jayson Molumby receives his first call-up since November 2023 after his foot injury ruled him out of international action this year whilst Chiedozie Ogbene and Nathan Collins, who were ruled out of the Hungary and Portugal matches through injury, also return to the squad.
Goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu remains a long-term absentee with an achilles injury whilst Burnley midfielder Josh Cullen is set to miss his first Ireland squad since 2020 as he withdrew from the squad through injury.
Monday, 2 September 2024 -
The squad arrive and have their first training
session in the rain at The FAI National Training Centre at the Spórt Éireann
Campas in Blanchardstown, on the western suburbs of Dublin.

November 2024 -
UEFA has fined the FA and the FAI after the national anthems were booed before the Republic of Ireland played England in the Nations League
match in September.
European football's governing body imposed a £10,500 fine (€12,500) on the Football Association (FA) following England fans' booing of Amhran na bhFiann at Aviva Stadium.
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) received a fine of £8,400 (€10,000) after home supporters booed God Save The King.
UEFA imposed further punishment on the FAI, with a £7,800 (€9,250) fine for the lighting of flares and a £5,000 (€6,000) penalty for a pitch invasion by a spectator.
