The Lyrics
England, c’mon England
You’re my England
66-2006
66-2006
Gordon Banks, Paul
Robinson, Ray Wilson, Gary Neville,
George Cohen, Ashley Cole, Jack Charlton..
England, this time
we’re gonna win it
C’mon England, our hearts are on fire
You’re my England, we’re watching and we’re waiting
66-2006
66-2006
Rio Ferdinand, Bobby
Moore, John Terry, Nobby Stiles,
Jamie Carragher, Alan Ball, David Beckham.
England, this time
we’re gonna win it
C’mon England, our hearts are on fire
You’re my England, we’re watching and we’re waiting
66-2006
66-2006
Bobby Charlton,
Steven Gerrard, Roger Hunt, Frank Lampard,
Martin Peters, Joe Cole, Geoff Hurst, Michael Owen.
And maybe even Wayne
Rooney, if his metatarsal’s healed.
And, of course, if we get that far.
England, now
Freddie’s won the Ashes
C’mon England, and
Wilko’s won the cup
You’re my England, this time we’re gonna win it.
So we all sing
C’mon England, the
country’s all behind you
You’re my England, so let’s win the bloody thing!
We won the cup at
Wembley, now we’re gonna win it in Germany
We won the cup at Wembley, now we’re gonna win it in Germany.
C’mon England. |
Notes
Football commentator/reporter John Anderson (Sky Sports,
Setanta, IRN, Five Live) and record producer/engineer Nod Harris (REM, The
Fall, Sinead O'Connor) have joined forces as “One Million Voices” to present
“66-2006”, a late contender in the race to produce the definitive England
World Cup song.
An unashamedly foot stomping terrace anthem, it features
eminently chantable lyrics and over the top commentary segments.
It’s all based on the not entirely original notion of
England finally
repeating their World Cup triumph of 1966. But we’re not
ashamed of that.
