Ashall played for several colliery football teams, Brodsworth Colliery
FC, Upton Colliery FC and Frickley Colliery FC. He also had a trial at
Huddersfield Town AFC. However, he signed with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC
in August 1935. After 84 league appearances and eighteen goals, Ashall
moved to Coventry City in 1938, and guested for Northampton Town during
the war. He returned to Coventry and completed his 62 league appearances
in which he scored ten goals. He was injured in September 1947 and never
played again.
