Played for Blackburn schools before becoming a Blackburn Rovers FC
trainee, signing professionally on 7 March 1995. After only
four
league appearances, Beattie signed for
Southampton FC for £1 million on 10 July 1998 (in a swap deal that saw
Kevin Davies join Rovers). Following a prolific 68 league
goals in 204 league appearances, Beattie then became Everton's record
signing on 4 January 2005 for £6 million (76 league apps,
thirteen goals).
After failing to settle, Beattie then broke Sheffield United FC's transfer
record on 4 August 2007 when they paid £4m for his services, despite
dropping out of the Premier League (62 league apps, 34 goals). Beattie returned to the Premier League
when Stoke City FC bought him on 12 January 2009 for an eventual fee of
£3.5m., unfortunately, after a dressing-room altercation between Beattie
and his manager Tony Pulis, he was left on the sidelines, (38 league
apps, nine goals), until an eventual transfer north of the border when
Glasgow Rangers FC paid for his services on 13 August 2010 for an undisclosed
fee, (seven SPL apps). On 31 January 2011, Beattie once more returned
to Lancashire and the Premier League when Blackpool FC signed him on loan for
the remainder of the season (nine Premier League appearances), he was
released by Rangers in August 2011. Beattie then trained with AFC
Bournemouth and then Sheffield United FC, with whom he signed a short-term
contract, but after eighteen league appearances, and failure to win
promotion, he was released in the summer of 2012. Beattie signed as a player-coach
at Accrington Stanley FC on 9 November 2012, scoring his first
professional goal in three years on 20 November. He was appointed
player-manager of Stanley on 24 May 2013. He had completed 25 league
appearances and scored six times up until the end of 2013-14. He parted
company with Stanley on 12 September 2014. |

minutes are an approximation, due to the fact that many matches rarely stick to exactly ninety minutes long, allowing time for injuries and errors. |
