Club Career

Club(s) Began his career at the renowned Arsenal FC Academy in 1999, but left without playing a single senior game, he was transfer-listed after throwing his shirt at the unused and Don Howe following a substitution in a FA Premier Academy League Final play-off.  Coventry City FC picked up his services for £1million on 13 July 2000.  After three years and fourteen league goals in 72 league appearances, Bothroyd joined the Italian side AC Perugia on 10 July 2003 after his contract expired, but a return of five goals in 28 league games appeared insignificant and he was loaned out back to England and Blackburn Rovers FC for the 2004/05 season, scoring once in eleven league appearances.  Charlton Athletic FC signed Bothroyd following Perugia's financial problems, on 31 August 2005, making seventeen league appearances, scoring twice.  Despite a trial and pre-season US tour with Crystal Palace FC, it was Wolverhampton Wanderers FC that signed him on a free transfer on 27 July 2006, and he made 55 league appearances, scoring twelve goals. He was then loaned to Stoke City FC for a month in March 2008 for four league appearances. Bothroyd then signed for Cardiff City FC on 5 August 2008 for £350,000. Following 116 league appearances that included 41 goals, he left on 23 May 2011 after they failed to win promotion from the Championship. On 13 July, he joined Premier League new club, Queen's Park Rangers FC. Joined Sheffield Wednesday FC on loan on 31 August 2012, scoring once in fourteen league appearances. He was released from QPR on 30 June 2013 after just 25 league appearances and three goals. On 8 January 2014, Bothroyd joined Thai Premier League club Muangthong United FC. In February 2015, he joined Japanese side Júbilo Iwata, scored 34 goals in 54 J2 League appearances, gaining promotion, before signing with Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in July 2017, making 107 J1 League appearances, scoring 35 goals, until 27 November 2021.
