Started his career as a schoolboy with his hometown club, Stoke
City FC in 1978, he turned professional on 15 November 1980, making his
league debut the following September. Unable to command a first-team
place, Bould went to Torquay United FC for nine league matches
from 19 October 1982, he returned to play in 183 league matches for Stoke,
scoring six times. Bould was originally a right-back, until Mick
Mills changed him to a centre-half. Bould choose
Arsenal FC over Everton FC on 13 June 1988 for £390,000. His
successful time at Highbury saw him play in 287 league matches,
scoring five goals, including Arsenal's first as Premier League
founding member. On 2 July 1999, he joined Peter Reid's Sunderland AFC and
became the club captain. He played 21 Premier League appearances,
before arthritis forced his retirement. |

Beyond England |
After retiring and earning his UEFA coaching
badges, Bould
returned to Arsenal FC as backroom staff when he became the head of Youth
coaching, winning several leagues and the Youth Cup. After long standing assistant manager, Pat Rice, finally
retired, it was Bould that replaced him in May 2012. |
