junior football until he joined Derby County FC as an apprentice in Augsut
1965. He turned professional in November 1966. Without making any
league appearances, Brian Clough allowed him to join York City FC
in July 1968 for £3500. His 109 league appearances and 27
goals was noticed enough for John Bond's Bournemouth & Boscombe
Athletic FC to pay £20,000 for him in December 1970, he
scored 46 goals in 140 league outings. Norwich City FC then broke
their transfer record fee paid when John Bond again signed Boyer for £145,000
in February 1974. He returned 34 goals in 166 league appearances.
Southampton FC signed him in August 1977 for £125,000.
After 49 goals in 138 league appearances, Manchester City FC then
paid £220,000 for Boyer in November 1980, because of injuries, he
only made twenty league appearances, scoring three goals.
From there, he spent February 1982 on loan at Hong Kong side Bulovas FC.
Boyer was at Grantham Town FC in July 1983, later having spells with
Stamford FC and Shepsed Charterhouse FC. He returned to Grantham as joint
manager in December 1985, he hung up his boots at the end of the 1986-87

minutes are an approximation, due to the fact that many matches rarely stick to exactly ninety minutes long, allowing time for injuries and errors. |
