Club Career

Club(s) Started his career with Alderly Edge FC before he signed with Stockport County FC, who sent him to Sandback Rambers FC for development. He rejoined County in 1926, and was immediately linked with a move to Newcastle United FC. At County, however, he scored 72 goals in 112 league appearances. Sheffield Wednesday FC signed him on 25 June 1929. After 215 league appearances and seventy goals, Burgess moved to Chelsea FC on 15 March 1935 where he became a penalty specialist. He made 142 league appearances and scored 34 goals. Retired during WW2.
