Club Career

Club(s) Played junior football Penkridge Juniors. He then became an apprentice with Walsall FC and a trainee with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC, signing trainee forms on 13 July 1989, before being released. Stafford Rangers FC signed him on 1 August 1990, and it was in the Conference league that he was being noticed. It was with Crystal Palace FC who signed Collymore on 4 January 1991 for £100.000. After twenty league appearances and a solitary goal, Stan signed for Southend United FC on 20 November 1992 for £100,000. Fifteen goals in thirty league appearances not only kept Southend in Division One, but also attracted the bigger clubs. And so it was, on 5th July 1993, Nottingham Forest paid £2.75 million for his services, 65 league appearances and 41 goals followed before being sold to Liverpool FC on 3 July 1995 for £8.5 million and another 61 league appearances produced 26 goals. He was then sold to Aston Villa on 16 May 1997 for £7 million, but he fell into a clinical depression and his talent and goalscoring suffered, trying his luck with a variety of clubs. After only seven league goals in 46 appearances with Villa, Collymore was loaned to Fulham FC for three months from August to October 1999. Only six league appearances were produced.  He left Villa Park on a free transfer on 10 February 2000 and joined Leicester City FC, where five goals in eleven appearances were impressive enough, but Martin O'Niell's departure and the arrival of Peter Taylor as manager meant Collymore would leave on another free transfer, this time to Bradford AFC on 26 October 2000. But only two league goals in seven appearances ended with a managerial casualty and Collymore was transfer-listed, and despite interest from plenty of English clubs, Stan joined La Liga side Real Oviedo SAD on 31 January 2001. After only three appearances, Collymore announced his retirement on 7 March 2001. In total, Collymore scored 99 league goals in 251 outings.
