Played
junior football in Portsmouth. Joining Portsmouth FC as an amateur in June
1954, turning professional the following December.
After just nineteen league appearances, and
nine goals, Ipswich Town FC signed Crawford in September 1958 for £6000.
He made 197 league appearances and scored an astonishing 143 goals.
Joined Wolverhampton Wanderers FC in September 1963 for £42,000,
for another 57 league appearances and another
39 goals. West Bromwich Albion FC signed Crawford in February 1965
for £35,000. But after only six goals in
fourteen league matches, he returned to Ipswich Town FC in March
1966 for £15,000 and made another 123
league appearances, and scored 61 goals. Charlton Athletic FC took
him in £12,500 for 21 league matches and
seven goals. Kettering Town FC later on in the year, in October,
signed him. In June 1970, Colchester United FC paid £3000 and
he subsequently scored 24 goals in 45 league appearances. Joined
Durban City FC in South Africa from August to October 1971. |

Became the youth coach of Brighton &
Hove Albion when he returned, but left when Brian Clough became the
manager, later having spells at Eden FC in New Zealand and as Youth coach
at Portsmouth FC in the mid-1970's, finally leaving again in 1978. Later
managed Fareham Town FC and Winchester City FC, finally retiring in 1984,
who became the a merchandising representative. -
