Club Career

Club(s) Started playing Leicestershire local football with Wigston Fields FC, but began his football career with non-league Oakham United FC, where he was spotted by Norwich City FC, whom he signed for on 24 March 1988.  Without playing any games, Dublin joined Cambridge United FC on 2 August 1988 on a free transfer. He spent one game on loan at Barnet FC in 1988. His 52 Cambridge goals in 156 league appearances caught the attention of Manchester United FC, where he signed on 7 August 1992 for £1 million.  Alas, only two goals in twelve Premier League appearances (eight of them as a substitute) in two years ensured that Dublin's footballing agility lay elsewhere. It was Coventry City FC who signed Dublin on 9 September 1994 for £2 million. A return of 61 goals in 145 league appearances was much more successful and Aston Villa FC picked up his signature for £5.75 million on 6 November 1998.  He had a loan period with Millwall FC in 2002, playing five, scoring twice. He was freed by Villa after 145 league appearances and 48 goals in the summer of 2004, whereupon his hometown club, Leicester City FC signed him. After finding his position under threat, and playing games as a defender, Dublin and Leicester ended the contract on 30 January 2006 after 58 league appearances and five goals.  And it was onto The Celtic FC until the end of the season, playing eleven, scoring once.  On 20 September 2006, Norwich City FC announced the arrival of Dublin for a season-long stay. He remained for the following season, eventually retiring from football on 4 May 2008. He left Norwich playing 70 league matches, scoring twelve. In total, 613 league outings, scoring 183 times.

Beyond England

Since leaving football, Dion has been seen as a pundit on Sky Sports and BBC Sport.  Has also, unusually, invented a new percussion instrument, called The Dube, which has been used in many schools and the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 2011, Dion accompanied Ocean Colour Scene at one of their gigs in Norwich. - Various Media
