According to the 1881 census, two year old Richard is the youngest of three children to William, a cotton finisher, and Sarah Ann (née Ashworth), a cotton thread spooler. living at 29 Ryder Street in Collyhurst.

According to the 1891 census, twelve year old Richard is the third of six children living at home at 11 Carisbrook Street in Harpurhey. His father is a finisher.

According to the 1901 census, Richard, a lion moulder, is now the second of six living at home with their parents at 45 Corinth Street, still in Harpurhey. His father is a sheet finisher.

Marriage to Ada Creacall, on Saturday, 1 July 1905 at St. Thomas Church in Lower Crumpsall, Manchester, still living at 45 Corinth Street.

Children Dick and Ada had six children together, Richard (b.6 June 1906), Ivy (b.7 April 1910) and Ida (b.8 November 1913). Three had died before 1911.

"He was last of star line
"MEMBER of Manchester United's first F.A. Cup winning team in 1909 and a famous footballer in his day, Mr. Dick Duckworth has died at Chesterfield aged 76. Duckworth was the last member of one of the greatest club half back lines in first-class soccer before World War I. His colleagues were Charlie Roberts and Alec Bell. Mr. Duckworth, whose son, Dick is the present manager of Stockport County, began his career with United when their ground was at Clayton. He played behind Billy Meredith in the 1909 Cup team that beat Bristol City at Crystal Palace and was also in the United team that won the First Division championship in 1908 and 1911. He was till a member of the side when United moved to their present ground at Old Trafford in 1911. The year before he played England against South Africa. For many years fater his retirement Mr. Duckworth was a licensee in Edenfield, near Bury. He moved to Chesterfield a few years ago."
