According to the 1861 census, three year old Edwin is the youngest of six
children to Edwin and Harriet (née Dennis). They have one servant and live
at the factory on St. Anns Hill Road in the St. Mary's area of Nottingham.
His father is a lace manufacturer and employer of 135. |

According to the 1871 census, Edwin is the youngest of five living with
their parents at 29 Birkland Avenue in Sherwood. His father is s till a
lace manufacturer, but now employs seven. |

According to the 1881 census, Edwin is lodging at 33 The Grove in
Camberwell, and working as a Lace merchant. |
Marriage |
to Ada Mary Eliza Thompson, on 23 February 1882 at St. Giles
Church in Camberwell. Address stated as 19 Shenky Road in
Camberwell. They had six children. |

The Baptism Register for Constance and Gladys on 22 August 1886 state
that they were living at 4 South Park Road in Wimbledon. The London
Electoral Register state that Edwin was living at Tolworth Lodge in
Surbiton in 1890. According to the 1891 census, lace merchant
Edwin is married to Ada and they have four children, Constance Maude Mary
(b.1883), Gladys Dorothy (b.1887), Guy Dennie (b.1889), Robert Langhorne
(b.1890), and live at Tolworth Lodge with two servants. Freedom of
the City of London Admission Papers state that Ellis had a lace merchant
shop at 91 Watling Street. The Surrey Electoral Registers state that
the Ellis' are living at Upton Lodge on Maldon Road from 1893. |

According to the 1901 census, Edwin, a Lace merchant, and Ada, and have
two more children, Frederick Bruce (b.1892) and Norman Cecil (b.1896),
along with Constance, they are still living at Upton Lodge on the Maldon
Road in Wallington, Surrey, with a governess and two servants. The
Surrey Electoral Registers state that they were still living here in 1905,
however, by 1908, the London version states they were living at Tudor
House in Upper Teddington Road in Hampton Wick. |

According to the 1911 census, Edwin, a retired merchant, is still married
to Ada, and with three of his children and a single servant, they live at
4 Church Crescent in Muswell Hill. The London Electoral Registers
state that Edwin and Ada were still living there in 1915, and living at
Flat 5, 20 Cathcart Hill in Islington by 1919. |

According to the 1939 register, Edwin, now widowed, is a retired lace
merchant and is a patient at Morden College
(a residential home for poor ex-merchants).
Electoral
Registers show that Ellis was at Morden since at least 1933, sharing
number 14 with John Thomas Beckett. |

Saturday, 30 September 1939, aged 82 years 115 days.
Buried on 4 October in Greenwich. |
