Port Vale FC
trainee, signed professional terms on 31 July 1998 and played 41 leaue
appearances, scoring four times, before signing for Tottenham
Hotspur FC on 24 January 2000 for £1m. Loaned to Everton FC on 31
January 2008 until the end of the season, but never played. After
114 Premier League appearances, scoring twice, for Spurs, Gardner signed for newly-promoted
Hull City AFC, initially on loan on 28 July 2008 until January 2009, but less than
three weeks later, he signed a permanent deal for £2½ million on 14 August 2008;
Following 32 league appearances and broken vertebrae, he joined Crystal Palace FC on
31 August 2010 on loan that lasted the season and 28 Championship
appearances, scoring once, followed. His contract was not renewed at Hull,
so Gardner signed a year deal with Palace in August 2011. He made
another 28 Championship appearances. On 20 June 2012, signed with
Sheffield Wednesday FC, making 42 Championship appearances, before
he was released on 6 May 2014. |
