England Issues

"WRIT ON LAWTON
"A writ for alleged libel by Tommy Lawton has been served on his solicitors on behalf of Charlie Gee former England international centre-half. The alleged libel is contained in the England and Notts County centre-forwards's book, Football is My Business. Gee is also seeking an injunction to restrain further publication. Lawton's solicitors have accepted the writ from Birlow, Parkin and Co., a Stockport firm of solicitors, actong on behalf of Gee.
"Gee, who lives in Stockport, played for Everton for nine years. He and Lawton were members of an Everton team which toured the continent in 1936, and in his book Lawton describes events on that tour which are the subject of the action. Mr. Gee, who is an assistant master at Stockport Municipal College, said yesterday: 'My legal advisers have decided to issue the writ on my behalf after being in contact with the publishers of the book'. When a Journal reporter spoke to Lawton at his home in Kenton, Middlesex, last night, he declined to give the name of his solicitors, and said: 'I have nothing to say and cannot discuss the matter at this stage."
