According to the 1871 census, fourteen year old Charles E., and his younger brother Henry, are scholars at Queen Elizabeth School, on Henley Road in Ipswich.

According to the 1881 census, Chas E., now a banker himself, is one of three children back at home with their parent on the High Street in Newmarket.

Marriage to Agnes Osorne Margaret Wilkinson, on 4 April 1883 at St. Mary's Church in West Kensington [registered in Fulham, June 1883].

According to the 1891 census, Charles Ed., still a banker, now married to Agnes, with three children, Rita (b.1884), Charles Richard (b.1885) and Alice (b.1887), living at St. Fabian's on Exning Road in Newmarket, with a governess and four servants.
