Began at
the Academy of Luton Town FC, before being released to become a Birmingham City
FC junior, from where he signed professionally on 11 March 1998. After
83 league appearances, and eight goals, Johnson signed for Crystal Palace FC on 5 August 2002 for £750,000,
and would go onto to score 74 goals in 140 league appearances, a
tally that would see him sign
for Everton FC whilst on England squad duty on 30 May 2006, for an eventual
transfer fee worth £8.6 million, a day after both Wigan Athletic FC and
Bolton Wanderers FC had £8.5 million bids accepted. He
scored seventeen goals in 61 Premier League Toffee appearances. Following a
2008 summer of discontent,
Johnson joined Fulham FC for £10.5 million. Then after 86 Premier League
appearances and thirteen goals, was released after his four-year
contract expired. On 18 June 2012, he signed for Queen's Park Rangers
FC. |
