Began with Dalton Athletic FC
and Dalton Casuals FC. He signed as an amateur for Manchester City FC in
February 1919, and shortly thereafter, as a professional,
playing 328 league matches and scoring 158 goals. He signed for
Everton FC in March 1930 for a £6,000 fee, going on to play 146
league matches, scoring 56. Became one of a few to cross Stanley
Park when he joined Liverpool FC on 3 March 1934. After 36 league
matches, scoring another eight, he then joined Darwen FC as their
player-manager in August 1936, retiring through the war. |

Woodman Inn in Stockport before then. -
