Joined Hull City
AFC as
an Apprentice in June 1976. After turning professional in February 1978,
he made 191 league appearances, scoring 53 times. He was sold to Sheffield Wednesday FC for
£115,000 in July 1984, and after 121 league
appearances and another 27 goals, Arsenal FC picked up his signature in March
1988 for £800,000. He only played 52
league matches, with a return of sixteen goals, before he returned to Sheffield in September 1990 when
Sheffield United FC signed him for £350,000. Loaned to Middlesbrough
FC in January 1992, played three league matches
and returned to United in May, being released by the
Sheffield club in the July, having only played
22 league matches, and three goals. After searching for a club,
Glenn Hoddle's Swindon Town
FC signed him in March 1993, but he was released at the end of the season,
having scored once, his 100th league goal, in
eleven league appearances.
In July 1993, Barnet FC signed him, then played
a final 23 league matches, Barnet then released him, prompting
Marwood to retire from the game in 1994. |

Between 1990 and 1993, Marwood was the Chairman of
the Professional Footballers Association. After retiring, he became a Nike
Marketing Manager for football in the UK, as well as a pundit for Sky Sports
and STAR Sports, a BBC Radio 5 Live Commentator. He has since become Football Administrator
and Executive Director at Manchester City since February 2009. |
