Club(s) A product of the Manchester United FC Youth Academy, he signed for United on 29 January 1993. He was appointed as club captain in November 2005. He completed 400 Premiership appearances, scoring five goals, before announcing his retirement on 2 February 2011.

After retiring from playing, Gary joined the punditary team at Sky Sports. He was also appointed as Roy Hodgson's assistant at England on 14 May 2012. He holds both UEFA A and B Coaching licences.
