Playing Career

Club(s)
Shawcross began his football career with his local team, Buckley Town FC, of the Cymru Alliance. Shawcross then joined the Manchester United FC Academy, making appearances for the youth sides.  He made one solitary appearance in the full team when he played against Crewe Alexandra FC in a League Cup clash.  In January 2007, he joined Royal Antwerp FC of Belgium on a six-month loan deal, making 22 league appearances, scoring three times.  On his return to United, he was sent out again on a six-month loan deal, on 3 August 2007, to Stoke City FC, the loan deal was made permanent on 18 January 2008, when Shawcross was allowed to sign for an initial £1 million. He was awarded the club captaincy before having his career curtailed by injuries - a long-tem back problem, and a leg break in August 2019. He left City on 19 February 2021 when his contract was cancelled, leaving him to move to David Beckham's Inter Miami in the MLS, now managed by Phil Neville. He has made ten+three appearances up until 9 October 2021, with one red card. After suffering with another back injury, Shawcross retired from playing on 11 January 2022, and took up a coaching position at Inter Miami.
