Playing Career


Club(s)
Began with the Huddersfield Town AFC youth system. However, in 2000, he joined York City AFC, developing through its youth system. Following loan spells with Wakefield & Emley FC, making seven Northern Premier League appearances, and Worksop Town FC, where he made six Conference (North) appearances in the 2005-06 season. Stockdale joined Darlington FC on 1 August 2006, where spent two successful seasons at Darlington, as he was courted by teams such as Birmingham City FC and Newcastle United FC, but he chose Fulham FC, and a £600,000 transfer followed on 4 June 2008. Stockdale was then sent on further loan periods, firstly to Rotherham United AFC in November 2008, then Leicester City FC in March 2009, and Plymouth Argyle FC in January 2010. After signing a four year contract with Fulham on 26 July 2011, Stockdale then joined Ipswich Town FC on a season-long loan deal, followed by a six-week loan with Hull City AFC on 22 November 2012, and he returned on loan on 18 January 2013. He left London for Brighton & Hove Albion FC on 28 July 2014 for an undisclosed fee. Stockdale then joined Birmingham City FC on 1 July 2017, and in his second season, was allowed to join Southend United FC on 8 September 2018 as an emergency loanee goalkeeper. Upon his return, he joined Wycombe Wanderers FC on loan on 22 November 2018. He was then loaned to Coventry City FC on 8 February 2019, before returning to St. Andrews. Rejoined Wycombe on loan on 24 January 2020. Stockdale returned to Wycombe Wanderers FC on 9 September 2020 on a permanent deal, however, the Chairboys were relegated at the end of the season. On 2 February 2021, Stockdale joined Stevenage Borough FC as an emergency loanee. On 13 June 2022, he joined Sheffield Wednesday FC on a free transfer.
