Began as a Liverpool
FC trainee, before signing professionally on 8 November 1994.
Loaned out to Swindon Town FC in November 1997, until January 1998.
Signed for Coventry City FC for �2.5m in the summer of 2000. In August
2002, signed for Blackburn Rovers FC for �1.5m. Following his release from
his Rovers' contract, Thompson signed for Wigan Athletic FC on 19 January
2006 and was released at the end of the 2005-06 season. Portsmouth
FC snapped him up on 28 July 2006, before joining Bolton Wanderers FC on
31 January 2007; He was released from his contract again in May
2007. Following a trial with Sheffield United FC in November 2007,
Thompson announced his retirement from playing football on 28 November
2007, due to cartilage injury problems; |
