Wheater was a Middlesbrough FC trainee when he signed professional forms
on 16 February 2005. He was loaned out to Doncaster Rovers FC between
January and April 2006. Wolverhampton Wanderers FC followed in September
2006, but the three-month loan deal was cut short. A loan period to Darlington FC happened
from 1 January 2007. Wheater returned to the Riverside Stadium,
becoming club captain for the 2009-10 season in the Championship. He returned to the Premier League when he was signed by Bolton Wanderers FC
on 20 January 2011, for £3.5 million. Signed for Oldham Athletic FC
on 1 August 2019. He was informed on 21 September 2020, that he was no
longer a member of the first-team squad. |
