and including Serbia & Montenegro's match against Germany on
30 April 2003.
Diary
Thursday, 28 May 2003 -
Yugoslavia will play under their new name of Serbia and
Montenegro from now on after the country's new name was formally ratified by the
United Nations. The Football Association of Yugoslavia
(FSJ) will now be known as the Football Association of Serbia and Montenegro
(FSSCG) after a new constitution was formed for the country.
Serbian and Montenegrin football
officials insist that the change will not affect football in the country."We
carry on there where we stopped and our primary interest is the Euro 2004
qualifiers," said FSSCG general secretary Branko Bulatovic. "In our organisation
we don't do politics. Our job is football."
Thursday, 28 May 2003 - Serbia &
Montenegro coach Dejan Savićević has named two new faces in his squad
for the upcoming friendly clash with England and the Euro 2004 qualifiers
against Finland and Azerbaijan. The former AC Milan star's team face a
busy schedule in June with three matches in just nine days, starting with the
match against England at Leicester next Tuesday. That
has prompted Savicevic to name a 25-man squad, including newcomers Dragan
Mladenovic of FK Crvena zvezda, who at 27 is set for his debut, and FK Zeleznik
midfielder Slobodan Markovic. Despite the chance to test the quality of his team
out on England before their Group Nine qualifiers, however, Savićević
has revealed he is likely to rest his star players at the Walkers Stadium.
