Diary

Thursday, 20 March 2008 - Raymond Domenech has included ten Premier League players in his 39-man squad for next week's friendly against England in Paris, the day after an 'A' squad faces Mali in the capital. There is no place for David Trezeguet.  The Juventus ace, the leading scorer in Serie A, refuses to take part in 'A' fixtures, a stance that means he is unlikely to play at Euro 2008.  Domenech has also called up four new players.  In-form Lyon midfielder Matthieu Bodmer, 25, and 23-year-old forward Mathieu Valbuena of Marseille have earned their first call-ups as have centre-backs Mathieu Delpierre of Stuttgart, 26, and 22-year-old Adil Rami of Lille.

Friday, 21 March 2008 - Louis Saha withdrew from the squad.  The French federation did not give a reason for the Manchester United striker's withdrawal. Domenech again overlooked David Trezeguet in naming a 39-man squad, preferring to replace Saha with former Liverpool forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle.  The squad is Domenech's last before he unveils his 23 players for Euro 2008.

Sunday, 23 March 2008 - A spate of withdrawals:- David Trezeguet has replaced injured Karim Benzema.  Benzema sustained an ankle injury in his Olympique Lyon side's 4-2 home Ligue 1 win over Paris St Germain on Sunday.  Trezeguet has not played for France since a 1-0 defeat by Scotland in February last year in Paris.

Arsenal defender Bakary Sagna has also pulled out.  Sagna limped off in the second half of Arsenal's 2-1 loss at Chelsea on Sunday.  Sagna is replaced by Lyon defender Anthony Reveillere.  Arsene Wenger said Sagna has hurt his ankle.

Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastien Frey also pulled out for an undisclosed reason, and will be replaced by Nice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Marseille midfielder Mathieu Valbuena is out because of a groin strain.  Valbuena limped off in the first half of Marseille's 1-0 home loss to Sochaux in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

Monday, 24 March 2008 - More withdrawals:- Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira have withdrawn.  Henry played all of Barcelona's 4-1 defeat of Real Valladolid on Sunday but has pulled out of the match in Paris due to an unspecified injury.  His absence means David Trezeguet could get a rare start.

Patrick Vieira, the France captain, withdrew after failing to overcome a thigh strain. The Inter Milan midfielder said it was not a serious injury and expects to be back for his club's match against Lazio at the weekend.

Loic Remy, the Lens striker, has also been added to the squad. The 21-year-old replaces Mathieu Valbuena, who was forced to withdraw after suffering an adductor injury.
