Diary

Sunday, 8 August 2021 - The PZPN have announced this afternoon that West Ham United goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański has retired from international duty after making 56 appearances for his country. He debuted for the Eagles in March 2006.

Monday, 16 August 2021 - New coach Paulo Sousa has announced his first Polish squad of the new season, consisting of 26 players, for the World Cup qualification matches against Albania in Budapest, San Marino in Serravalle and England back in Warsaw. The biggest surprise is the inclusion of 19 year old Nicola Zalewski, who has played just 24 minutes of senior football so far. Another new face is Adam Buksa, who has scored eight goals in twenty MLS appearances this season for New England Revolution.

Monday, 30 August 2021 - Following the final weekend of league football across Europe before the International break, Paulo Sousa has announced numerous changes to his squad. Dawid Kownacki, Kacper Kozłowski, Krzysztof Piątek and Sebastian Szymański all miss out because of various injuries. Mateusz Klich misses out after testing positive for coronavirus. Piotr Zieliński will miss the first two matches of the campaign window, but Sousa hopes he will be available for the match against England. Initially, Sousa added Lech Poznań's Jakub Kamiński and Red Bull Salzburg's Kamil Piątkowski into the squad as replacements, and these were joined by Legia Warsaw's Bartosz Slisz and AEK's Damian Szymański.
The squad begin training later this afternoon in Legia.

Thursday, 2 September 2021 - Poland 4 Albania 1 - Robert Lewandowski led Poland to an emphatic 4-1 win as Paulo Sousa's side climbed to second in the Group I table. Talismanic captain Lewandowski opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a close range header, but Albania equalised thirteen minutes later when a long pass from Klaus Gjasula found striker Sokol Cikalleshi and he put the ball past Wojciech Szczęsny. Poland regained the lead against the run of play just before half-time through a header from Adam Buksa, who was making his debut. Nine minutes in the second half, Grzegorz Krychowiak tapped in a pass from Lewandowski, after the striker had dribbled past three Albania players. Just before the final whistle, Karol Linetty fired the ball in off the crossbar to secure a convincing win for Poland.

Saturday, 4 September 2021 - Bartosz Bereszyński will miss the match against San Marino tomorrow after limping off the field on Thursday night. He will return to training on Monday in preparation for the match against England.

Sunday 5 September 2021 - San Marino 1 Poland 7 - Poland warmed up for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier with England by smashing San Marino to stay second behind Gareth Southgate's Group I leaders. Striker Robert Lewandowski scored twice, with Karol Świderski and Karol Linetty also netting in the first half. Nicola Nanni pulled one back with San Marino's first home World Cup qualifying goal in eight years. Substitute Adam Buksa then stole the show, scoring a hat-trick to make it four goals in two Poland appearances.

Tuesday, 7 September 2021 - Piotr Zieliński is still not ready to make the tea, and will miss the match against England tomorrow night. Bartosz Bereszyński has not recovered enough to feature in the match either.

Wednesday, 8 September 2021 - The English national anthem was drowned out by almost 60,000 whistling supporters in attendance before the England's players were booed for taking the knee. Then players from both sides were dragged into a furious scuffle after the half-time whistle was blown, caused by Kamil Gilk grabbing Kyle Walker's throat. Both Glik and Harry Maguire were cautioned after the row.
Although the Polish team did not take the knee, they instead pointed to the 'respect' symbol on their left arm.

Thursday, 9 September 2021 - Polish FA chiefs have rejected any insinuation that their players racially abused England players. Their spokesman, Jakub Kwiatkowski said "It was a football incident. Passions were running very high. There was some pushing between Glik and Walker at a freekick. There was a lot of tension and some pushing but no racism."

Wednesday, 13 October 2021 - FIFA will take no disciplinary action over the confrontation between Kyle Walker and Kamil Glik due to lack ofidence. Both associations were asked for their observations on the incident by FIFA, which has decided there is insufficientidence to open proceedings.

Friday, 15 October 2021 -
The head of Poland FA, Cezary Kulesza, will ask FIFA to take action against the people who made what it says are false accusations of racism against Kamil Glik. "I made a decision that the Polish Football Association will apply to FIFA to punish those who have unjustifiably accused Kamil Glik of racist behaviour during the match against England. I was convinced from the outset that these allegations were completely false, so we will officially intervene."
