Diary
Friday, 30 January 1959 - The RFEF
announce that they will be taking a Spain side to England in October
of next year.
Thursday, 20 October 1960 - The
Spanish International Selection Committee name a 23-man Probables
squad for their match against England next week. Barcelona have eight
players, whilst rivals European Cup champions, Real Madrid, have seven
men in the squad. In addition to the established side, two outstanding
newcomers are included. Goalkeeper Vicente, who joined Real Madrid
this season from Espanyol, and half-back Gonzalez, who plays for Club
Atlético de Madrid .
Sunday, 23 October 1960 - Following the League matches in
Spain, the Selection Committee have reduced the Probables squad down
to a seventeen-man travelling squad. Ramellets, the Barcelona
goalkeeper, received a cut above his eye, in his league match.
Monday, 24 October 1960 - The
Spanish team, headed by Seville coach Luis Miró, arrive in London with
just sixteen players, including six from Real Madrid and five from
Barcelona. They are held up in traffic after arriving during the peak
time. It delayed their training schedule at Fulham FC's Craven
Cottage.
Tuesday, 25 October 1960 -
The Spaniards trained vigorously for over an hour at the Bank of England Sports Ground in
Roehampton.
