Squad details correct up to and including Sweden's match against Japan on 25 May 2002.

Diary

Sunday, 5 May 2002 - Coaches Lars Lagerback and Tommy Soderberg waited ninety minutes before bringing a press conference to a conclusion by revealing the names of the squad to represent Sweden. None of the sixty journalists in attendance were surprised. Daniel Andersson was the safe choice instead of the talented but young Kim Kallstrom. Everton's Jesper Blomqvist was also excluded.

Thursday, 23 May 2002 - Olof Mellberg and Freddie Ljungberg have a training ground bust-up. After an hour of the team's second workout in Japan, Mellberg came in hard and late on Ljungberg. Ljungberg reacted angrily, grabbing his compatriot, before Daniel Andersson and Henrik Larsson stepped in to seperate the pair.

Saturday, 25 May 2002 - An own goal by Celtic's Johan Mjallby gave World Cup co-hosts Japan a draw against Sweden in their warm-up game in Tokyo.

Saturday, 1 June 2002 - Sweden captain Patrik Andersson has hurt himself during a practice session in preparation for tomorrow's opening World Cup match. The groin injury has ruled him unavailable.
