Thursday, 29 September 2016 - Srečko Katanec has named his squad for the World Cup qualification matches against Slovakia and England, both matches are to be played in Ljubljana.

Monday, 3 October 2016 - Fourteen members of the Slovenian squad were absent as the group met up for training in Brdo. Those not available were still with their respective clubs.

Tuesday, 4 October 2016 - Kevin Kampl and Robert Berić withdraw from the squad. Berić is suffering with an hamstring injury and is to be rested for two weeks, while Kampl withdraws because of excessive fatigue. Katenec explained "Kevin told me that he was too tired to play, which is understandable. I saw that in one month, he played nine matches." Miha Zajc is also facing injury concerns.

Saturday, 8 October 2016 - Slovenia beat Slovakia by a single goal.
