Diary

Wednesday, 2 November 2022 - The latest chapter in the oldest rivalry in world football will be written next year, as Scotland take on England in a special 150th Anniversary Heritage Match to mark the first meeting between the two sides in 1872. Hampden Park will play host to the head-to-head on Tuesday, 12 September as part of the year-long calendar of events from the Scottish FA to celebrate the history of the association. The original contest is recognised by FIFA as football’s first-ever international match, as 4000 supporters packed into the West of Scotland Cricket Club in Glasgow.

Monday, 28 August 2023 - Scotland Head Coach Steve Clarke has named a 25-man squad for next month's international double header. Scotland will face Cyprus in Larnaca in a crucial Euro 2024 qualifier on 8 September, before taking on England in a special anniversary match at Hampden four days later. Scotland secured back-to-back victories over Norway and Georgia in the last camp in June, to maintain a 100 per cent record in Group A. Scott McKenna makes a welcome return after missing the past two camps through injury, while Ché Adams is also back from injury to bolster the forward line. There is also a first call-up at senior level for Newcastle United attacking midfielder Elliot Anderson, who has previously represented the Under-21s.

Wednesday, 6 September 2023 - Both uncapped players, midfielder Elliot Anderson and goalkeeper Liam Kelly, have withdrawn from the squad. Steve Clark has called up one replacement, 25-year-old Rangers reserve goalkeeper, Robby McCrorie, also uncapped.

Friday, 9 September 2023 - Scotland could seal Euro 2024 qualification as soon as next week after confidently sweeping aside Cyprus in Larnaca to maintain their 100% start in Group A. Goals in the opening half hour from Scott McTominay, Ryan Porteous and John McGinn set up a straightforward night for Steve Clarke's side, who earned a fifth straight win in the section. After just six minutes, McTominay nodded in the opener when McGinn flicked Andy Robertson's cross into his path, and 10 minutes later Porteous stabbed in his first Scotland goal after a deep free kick. McGinn then effectively sealed a huge victory as he finished a flowing move involving Billy Gilmour, Ché Adams and McTominay by curling the ball home from the edge of the box. The serenity of it all must have felt surreal to the more than 4,000 Scotland fans who packed out the AEK Arena, and many will now be booking flights to Germany for next summer, as Scotland need just two points from their remaining three qualifiers - away to Spain and Georgia, then at home against Norway - to guarantee an appearance at back-to-back European Championships. Their place in next summer's finals in Germany could be secured as early as Tuesday if Norway and Georgia draw in Oslo, whilst they are hosting England in Glasgow.

Monday, 11 September 2023 - The two captains, Harry Kane and Andrew Robertson, visit the scene of the very first international football match at the West of Scotland Cricket Ground, Hamilton Crescent in Partick. Robertson is wearing the limited edition Adidas shirt that the Scottish team will adorn tomorrow evening, whereas Kane is wearing a nostalgic shirt equivalent to the very first uniform that will be worn by the England team during their warm-up, and then sold at auction afterwards, to raise funds for the Alzheimer's Society.
