Thursday, 16 May 2024 - Netherlands Head Coach Ronald Koeman has named a thirty-man provisional squad, but will need to cut four players before he names his Finals squad in thirteen days.

Monday, 27 May 2024 - As many of the players arrive for training, it is announced that Atalanta midfielder Marten de Roon is the first name to be culled from the final squad. He suffered a muscle injury in the final of the Coppa Italia two weeks ago. The first training session took place with a group of Dutch internationals who no longer have club commitments.

Wednesday, 29 May 2024 - Virgil van Dijk is one of three Liverpool players named in the Netherlands' final 26-man squad for Euro 2024. Netherlands captain Van Dijk heads up a trio of Reds players selected by Ronald Koeman, alongside midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and striker Cody Gakpo. Injured Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has also been picked, despite not having played for more than a month because of an ankle injury. The three missing out are Borussia Dortmund left-back Ian Maatsen, currently on loan from Chelsea, Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper Nick Olij and Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber. The Netherlands face Canada and Iceland in warm-up matches next month before beginning their campaign against Poland in Hamburg on 16 June.

Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners has been ruled out of Euro 2024 after injuring himself in the warm-up before tonights friendly win. The 26-year-old, who has 21 appearances, played 51 games for Atalanta last season as they won the Europa League and finished fourth in Serie A.

Tuesday, 11 June 2024 - Frenkie de Jong has been ruled out of this summer's European Championship through injury. De Jong, 27, played just three times for his club after suffering an ankle injury in March. He was included in Ronald Koeman's Euro 2024 squad despite struggling with his recovery, but has been forced to pull out of the tournament. Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen, 22, who spent last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, has been added to the Dutch squad and was travelling to join them in Wolfsburg.

Wednesday, 12 June 2024 - Ajax striker Brian Brobbey suffered an injury scare in training today.

Thursday, 13 June 2024 - Uncapped striker Joshua Zirkzee has been called up to the Netherlands squad. The former Under-21 forward Zirkzee said on social media that he found out the news when on holiday at Walt Disney World in Florida. Zirkzee, who scored 11 goals for Bologna in Serie A last season, missed out on Koeman's provisional Euros squad because of injury.

Sunday, 16 June 2024 - Poland 1 Netherlands 2 - Substitute Wout Weghorst swept in a late winner two minutes after coming on as former champions the Netherlands began their Euro 2024 campaign with victory against Poland at Hamburg’s Volksparkstadion. In the hours before kick-off a man was shot by police close to where fans had been gathering in the city, but the game went ahead and delivered an entertaining encounter. Poland were without their all-time top scorer Robert Lewandowski, out with a thigh injury, but put that blow behind them to stun the Dutch early on when Adam Buksa headed home. The Netherlands had been the dominant side but missed a number of chances before Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo equalised when his deflected shot flew past Wojciech Szczesny. The Dutch continued to create opportunities and Gakpo should have got his second before the break but sent Nathan Ake’s pullback over from close range. Ronald Koeman’s side continued to dominate after the break and Szczesny denied Denzel Dumfries, before exciting youngster Xavi Simons drove an effort wide after being set up by Gakpo. But just as it looked like they would have to settle for a draw, Burnley striker Weghorst - introduced in the 81st minute - snatched the win with a close-range finish moments after coming on.

Friday, 21 June 2024 - Netherlands 0 France 0 - Xavi Simons had a second-half goal controversially ruled out as the Netherlands and France played out the first goalless draw of Euro 2024. The French started without Kylian Mbappe after he broke his nose in the win against Austria on Monday and they clearly missed their captain as they failed to take a number of chances. But it will be the Netherlands who will feel most aggrieved at not claiming the three points after Simons’ strike was chalked off. The 21-year-old’s drive from distance was disallowed by the on-field officials, led by referee Anthony Taylor, for an apparent obstruction on the goalkeeper by Denzel Dumfries, who was standing in an offside position. That prompted a lengthy check by the video assistant referee, who ultimately backed up the original decision. It was harsh on the Dutch, but they could have been two or three goals down before then if Antoine Griezmann had not missed a number of big chances. He first missed a shot from close range in the first half after being set up by Adrien Rabiot, who perhaps should have shot himself. Griezmann then sent a decent chance wide before prodding a tame effort at Bart Verbruggen after good work by N’Golo Kante. Wout Weghorst was again sent on in the closing stages but could not find the net this time.

Tuesday, 25 June 2024 - Netherlands 2 Austria 3 - Austria produced a hugely impressive performance that will make others take notice at Euro 2024 as they beat the Netherlands to progress to the last 16 as Group D winners. Despite being handed a tough draw with the Dutch and France, Ralf Rangnick’s side won two of their three games to finish top of the standings. The Netherlands had already guaranteed their progression to the last 16 but they will now go through as one of the best third-placed sides, with France second. This was a fully deserved win for Austria as they played with spirit and desire throughout, and showed great determination to respond to a fast start to the second-half by the Netherlands as Marcel Sabitzer's strike secured the victory. The Austrians had been gifted a sixth-minute lead when Donyell Malen turned home Alexander Prass’s dangerous cross. And, although Malen had a chance at redemption but scuffed his shot, Austria took control as the Netherlands struggled to get a touch of the ball at times. Rangnick’s side had chances to add to their lead through Sabitzer and Marko Arnautovic, but the Netherlands were level just 75 seconds into the second half. The Dutch came out fighting in the second half and equalised when Cody Gakpo curled in a great finish. That prompted a shift in tempo and Austria were holding on as Virgil van Dijk’s header deflected over the bar. But Austria weathered the storm and retook the lead through Romano Schmid’s powerful header, which the unfortunate Stefan de Vrij could only help over the line. Memphis Depay thought he had earned the Dutch a draw when his close-range volley survived a check for handball by the video assistant referee, but Sabitzer had the final say when he broke through and drove into the roof of the net to send the Austrian fans wild.

Saturday, 29 June 2024 - Aston Villa have completed the signing of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen for £35m. Maatsen, 22, spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and helped the Bundesliga club to reach the Champions League final. Chelsea signed Maatsen in 2019 from PSV Eindhoven and he impressed during loan spells at Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Burnley and Dortmund. He played a major role in helping Burnley win promotion to the Premier League in 2022-23, scoring four goals in 39 appearances as he was named in the Championship Team of the Season. Maatsen started the last campaign at Chelsea but struggled for regular minutes under Mauricio Pochettino, although he appeared in 15 games across all competitions. A six-month loan move to Dortmund was agreed in January after he penned a one-year contract extension that ran until June 2026 which included a release clause that was expected to lead to his departure this summer.

2 July 2024 - Romania 0 Netherlands 3 - Substitute Donyell Malen scored twice and Cody Gakpo got his third goal of Euro 2024 to help the Netherlands see off a spirited Romania and reach the quarter-finals of the tournament for the first time in 16 years. Liverpool forward Gakpo opened the scoring with a brilliant finish midway through the first half, cutting inside before unleashing a drive into the bottom corner. The Netherlands missed numerous chances after that, but made sure they did not risk paying for it when substitute Malen stabbed in late on from Gakpo's ball. Malen then wrapped up an impressive win for the Netherlands, with Romania having committed players forward, as he charged in on goal before slotting home. It was a much-improved performance from the Netherlands, who had to deal with early pressure from an enthusiastic Romania, who were backed by their loud and colourful fans. Romania's early pressing forced their opponents into mistakes and they gave them a scare when Dennis Man fizzed a shot just over. But Gakpo’s goal changed the pattern of the game and they could have gone further ahead just before the break, but Xavi Simons somehow fired wide. Romania again came out fighting in the second half but it was the Netherlands who continued to have the better chances as Memphis Depay failed to score from close range, Virgil van Dijk hit the post with a header and Gakpo’s shot after a driving run was pushed behind. But Malen, who had come on at half-time, scored twice in the final 10 minutes to avoid any late drama, and the Netherlands can now look forward to facing either Turkey or a rematch with their group opponents Austria in the last eight.

6 July 2024 - Netherlands 2 Turkey 1 - The Netherlands came from behind to see off Turkey and set up a semi-final against England at Euro 2024. An own goal from Mert Muldur, bundling the ball over his goalline under pressure from Cody Gakpo, meant the Dutch clawed back the lead having trailed at the break. Centre-back Samet Akaydin had deservedly put Turkey in front when he headed in Arda Guler's dinked cross, capping an impressive first-half display. He ran over to the Turkey fans, kissed the badge on his shirt and knelt down to pray in front of them, while substitutes sprinted down the touchline. But their celebrations would not last as the Netherlands, who had a poor first half, responded after the break, buoyed by substitute Wout Weghorst. They found an equaliser through Stefan de Vrij's header, moments after Weghorst made a crucial interception inside his own box to stop Turkey's Kaan Ayhan getting to a rebound. Turkey almost doubled their lead when Real Madrid's Guler bent a brilliant free-kick on to the post, but did not capitalise when they had their chances.
