Thursday, 18 May 2024 - Head Coach Murat Yakin named a 38-man squad for the preparations ahead of the Euro 2024 in Germany this summer. The federation explained that the first phase of preparations starting on Monday will take place with only 21 players since several others will still be involved in competitive matches for their respective clubs. That group includes, among others, Borussia Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel, who will play the Champions League final against Real Madrid on June 1, and Granit Xhaka, who still has the Europa League (May 22) and German Cup finals (May 25) with Bayer Leverkusen. "As many experienced players are not yet available due to commitments with their clubs, a number of youngsters have been called up for the pre-camp. They will have the opportunity to show what they can do and possibly force their way into the Euros," Yakin said. The first names are expected to be cut from the squad after a friendly match against Estonia on June 4. A second one will be made ahead of a friendly against Autria on June 8. Yakin has until June 7 to send his Euro 2024 squad with a maximum of 26 players to European football ruling body UEFA.

Wednesday, 5 June 2024 - The Swiss squad is cut to 27, with 24-cap right-back Kevin Mbabu one of the standout names to be left out. Filip Ugrinic, Albian Hajdari, Uran Bislimi, Pascal Loretz and Marvin Keller, who have earned just four international caps between them, have also been sent home. Switzerland have since confirmed that Genk striker Andi Zeqiri is the final player to be dropped from the final squad and will not be making the trip to Germany, but the 24-year-old will be on standby. "Andi made the decision difficult for us. He has been performing very well recently," said Yakin. "The training days in the pre-camp showed that there is also a lot of competition in the offensive, which is why other players were given preference." Other notable omissions from the Switzerland squad include 93-cap striker Haris Seferovic, who now plays his club football in the UAE with Al Wasl, 41-cap Sevilla midfielder Djibril Sow and 30-cap Mainz 05 man Edimilson Fernandes.

Saturday, 15 June 2024 - Hungary 1 Switzerland 3 - Switzerland battled their way to victory over Hungary as they made a winning start to their Euro 2024 campaign at Cologne Stadium. Kwadwo Duah justified his surprise inclusion by boss Murat Yakin as he slotted home his first international goal, before Michel Aebischer doubled Switzerland's lead on the stroke of half-time. Barnabas Varga gave Hungary hope with 30 minutes left after the striker guided Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai's brilliantly-weighted cross beyond Yann Sommer. Substitute Breel Embolo clinched the three points in stoppage time with a lovely lobbed finish over Peter Gulacsi.

Sunday, 16 June 2024 - Switzerland have been forced into an unexpected change to their preparations for Wednesday's group game against Scotland - because of the state of their training pitch. Bundesliga club Stuttgart have come to their rescue to provide temporary facilities while UEFA rectifies the problem. The Swiss FA explained: "The pitch in our training stadium at the Waldau will be replaced by Uefa. "The roots of the grass have died in several places. Therefore, we will train tomorrow and Tuesday on the VFB Stuttgart training pitch, at Robert-Schlienz-Stadion, which is in good condition. "Following the Scotland game, it is planned to train on the new pitch at the Stadion auf der Waldau. However, the condition of the new grass needs to be checked on Thursday."

Wednesday, 19 June 2024 - Scotland 1 Switzerland 1 - Scotland wrestled free from the shackles of injury and self destruction to muster a precious point against Switzerland to keep their campaign alive. Qualification hero Scott McTominay's deflected shot almost lifted the roof off the deafening Cologne Stadium on 13 minutes. However, a bewildering blind back pass from Anthony Ralston giftwrapped an opportunity for Xherdan Shaqiri to sweep home a sublime first-time shot high beyond Angus Gunn. Kieran Tierney pulled up clutching his hamstring as Dan Ndoye ran on to squander a golden chance when through on goal and will miss the Hungary game on Sunday. But the Scots, already patched up in defence, roused themselves heroically in the closing stages which saw Grant Hanley strike a post with a header from an Andy Robertson free-kick. The Swiss spurned a host of late chances, but not enough to deny Scotland a point.

Sunday, 23 June 2024 - Switzerland 1 Germany 1 - Substitute Niclas Fullkrug scored a late equaliser for Germany as they rescued a draw with Switzerland to top Group A. The Swiss thought they were going through to the last 16 as group winners after an early goal from Dan Ndoye until Fullkrug headed in the equaliser. There was an outburst of celebration from home supporters behind the goal as Germany maintained their unbeaten start to Euro 2024. It was a blow to Switzerland, who had defended resolutely for more than 90 minutes but they still progress to the knockout stages. Murat Yakin's Swiss side knew victory would see them leapfrog Germany and they almost delivered in Frankfurt until pressure took its toll in stoppage time. Germany, who had largely frustrated the home fans in the stands, created a flurry of chances late on and eventually did enough. Earlier, Swiss fans were bouncing and singing in the stands after Ndoye had placed a first-time shot into the roof of the net from Remo Freuler's dangerous cross. Ndoye also had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half that would have made it 2-0 - the second to be crossed off after VAR intervened for Germany's Robert Andrich. Andrich curled a shot from the edge of the box under the arms of goalkeeper Yann Sommer, whose blushes were saved when referee Daniele Orsato overturned his decision after going to the pitchside monitor to see a foul from Jamal Musiala in the build-up.

Saturday, 29 June 2024 - Switzerland 2 Italy 0 - Holders Italy made a limp exit from Euro 2024 as a sparkling display from Switzerland helped them set up a potential quarter-final meeting with England. The Swiss dominated from the start and took a deserved lead when the impressive Ruben Vargas crossed for Remo Freuler, who took a touch before hammering a low shot past Gianluigi Donnarumma. Vargas, who plays his club football in Germany for Augsburg, made it 2-0 just 27 seconds into the second half when he picked up Michel Aebischer’s pass near the left-hand corner of the Italy area and expertly bent the ball into the far top corner of the net. Italy did not manage a shot on target until the 73rd minute and their best effort before then came when Switzerland defender Fabian Schar headed Nicolo Fagioli’s cross against his own post, with Yann Sommer stranded. Although Gianluca Scamacca also hit the woodwork from close range before the end, the Azzurri never seriously threatened a fightback and their forgettable campaign in Germany simply fizzled out. While they head home, Switzerland, roared on in Berlin by their boisterous and frequently bouncing supporters, head for Dusseldorf where they will play the winners of England’s tie with Slovakia.

Tuesday, 2 July 2024 - Granit Xhaka is the only player not training with the rest of the squad. He is undergoing a personal rehabilitation session, but is not considered a concern for the match with England.
