Diary
Friday, 22
May 2026 - Assistant Coach Desmond Offei will lead the Black Stars in
tonight’s international friendly against Mexico in Puebla, following the absence of Head Coach Carlos Queiroz due to personal reasons.
Offei, who has supervised the team’s preparations since arrival in Mexico, will be assisted by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar and set-piece coach/video analyst Gregory De Grauwe.
Saturday, 23 May 2026 - Mexico 2 Ghana 0 - The match gave Desmond Ofei a closer look at his squad and provided new players a platform to stake a claim just days before Ghana’s final World Cup squad is announced.
Benjamin Asare kept his place in goal, marshalled by a back four of Jan Kwasi Gyamerah, Nathaniel Adjei, Oscar Oppong and Terry Yegbe. Emmanuel Agyei, captain Majeed Ashimeru, Ibrahim Osman and Jesurun Rak-Sakyi started in midfield, with Daniel Agyei and Felix Afena-Gyan leading the line in a 4-4-2 formation.
The hosts took an early lead through Brian Gutiérrez inside two minutes. Ghana recovered with a composed response, but Mexico looked comfortable on the ball and headed into the break 1-0 up after an impressive first-half display.
Guillermo Martínez doubled Mexico’s advantage in the 54th minute. Ofei responded with multiple second-half substitutions, but they were not enough to change the game.
Prince Amoako, Jerry Afriyie and Razak Simpson came on for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, Daniel Agyei and Felix Afena-Gyan in the 66th minute. Majeed Ashimeru, Ibrahim Osman, Emmanuel Agyei and Benjamin Asare later made way for Abdul Aziz Issah, Joseph Opoku, Salim Adams and Solomon Agbasi.
The changes gave Ghana renewed impetus in the closing stages, but Mexico held on for the win.
The match served as a valuable test for Ghana ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Monday, 25 May 2026 - Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man squad for the World Cup preparation camp and the international friendly against Wales in Cardiff. The team comprises five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards.
The team begins camp today and will train at the Dragon Park in Cardiff ahead of the friendly against Wales on Tuesday.
Greece-based defender Baba Abdul Rahman returns to the team for the first time since September 2023, following consistent performances for PAOK. The former Chelsea left back has made 35 appearances this season, scoring three goals and providing three assists across all competitions.
Also returning is Olympique Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah, who has been absent for close to a year. He is back to full fitness after recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury that sidelined him for more than 12 months.
Other notable returnees include Rayo Vallecano’s Abdul Mumin, who is back from a long layoff due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury; Saint-Étienne midfielder Augustine Boakye; and Stade Rennes defender Alidu Seidu.
Ajax Amsterdam youngster Paul Reverson has also been included. The 20-year-old has been called up for further assessment with a long-term view, having impressed for Ajax’s youth side in the Netherlands.
Thirteen players trained at Dragon Park today, with others expected to join the
squad on Tuesday. They include Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Jordan
Ayew, Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Elisha Owusu, Gideon Mensah, Marvin
Senaya, Jerome Opoku, Benjamin Asare, Joseph Anang, Solomon Agbasi, and Alidu
Seidu.
Tuesday, 26 May 2026 - Baba Abdul Rahman, Paul Reverson and Christopher Bonsu Baah joined the Black Stars squad
today as preparations continued.
The trio arrived in the morning and took part in the team’s afternoon training session at Dragon Park in Cardiff ahead of the two important assignments. Their arrival takes the number of players in camp to 16.
More arrivals are expected tomorrow.
Thursday, 28 May 2026 - Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Kamal Deen Sulemana, Abdul Mumin, Kwasi Sibo, Jonas Adjetey and Prince Kwabena Adu have joined the squad in Cardiff as preparations continue.
The six players took part in the team’s training session at Dragon Park. Their arrival increases the number of players in camp to 22.
Two more training sessions are scheduled for tomorrow.
Saturday, 30 May
2026 - Thomas Partey and Inaki Williams have joined the now also joined
the squad in Cardiff, taking the number of players in camp to 24 as preparations intensify.
The two players arrived this morning and went straight into the team’s first training session of the day at Dragon Park.
Sunday, 31 May 2026 - Antoine Semenyo is the latest player to join the squad in
Cardiff, taking the number of players in camp to 25.
The Manchester City forward arrived last night and took part in a mini golf session
as part of a team bonding exercise at the hotel on
this morning. He will join the evening training session at Dragon Park.
Monday, 1 June 2026 - Ghana's preparations for the World Cup have suffered an untimely setback, with defender Alexander Djiku reportedly on the verge of missing the tournament through injury.
The centre-back was initially named in Carlos Queiroz's provisional squad for the pre-World Cup friendly against Wales. However, reports emerging from the Black Stars camp in Cardiff suggest he has been unable to recover from a knock sustained during Spartak Moscow's Russian Cup final victory over FC Krasnodar. Should Djiku fail to make the cut, Derrick Luckassen is poised to step into the vacancy.
Luckassen earned his senior Ghana debut during the international friendly against Germany in March and has steadily strengthened his case for a place in the squad.
His performances for Cypriot champions Pafos FC during the 2025/26 campaign have not gone unnoticed.
The 30-year-old played a pivotal role in the club's domestic success while also making his mark in Europe.
Tuesday, 2 June 2026 - Wales 1 Ghana 1 - Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw by Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday after conceding a late equaliser.
The Black Stars took the lead through Caleb Yirenkyi in the 66th minute, but Wales struck back in the closing stages to deny Ghana victory.
Lawrence Ati-Zigi started in goal, with a backline of Gideon Mensah, Marvin Senaya, Jerome Opoku and Jonas Adjetey. Elisha Owusu and Thomas Partey anchored midfield, while Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Kamaldeen Sulemana provided width. Jordan Ayew and Prince Kwabena Adu led the attack.
Introduced in the 60th minute, Caleb Yirenkyi needed only six minutes to make his mark, tapping in from close range. The goal came after Wales failed to deal with a dangerous attack led by Ernest Nuamah, with Yirenkyi finishing calmly to give Ghana the lead.
Nuamah was Ghana’s standout performer after coming on in the second half. The Olympique Lyon winger was electric on the right flank, constantly troubling the Wales backline.
Head coach Carlos Queiroz made several changes in the second half. Brandon Thomas-Asante, Alidu Seidu, Kwasi Sibo and Benjamin Asare replaced Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Marvin Senaya, Prince Kwabena Adu, Thomas Partey and Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
Elisha Owusu, Jordan Ayew, Gideon Mensah, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Jerome Opoku later made way for Caleb Yirenkyi, Abdul Mumin, Inaki Williams, Christopher Bonsu Baah and Baba Rahman as Ghana continued to threaten on the break.
The Black Stars looked dangerous with Nuamah and Bonsu Baah on the flanks, but Wales had the last laugh with a late goal from Lewis Koumas three minutes into stoppage time.
Thursday, 4 June 2026 - The Black Stars have arrived in the United States to continue preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The team departed Cardiff
yesterday afternoon and touched down in Washington D.C., around 9pm (local time). They were met on arrival by staff of the Ghana High Commission in Washington.
Friday, 5 June 2026 - The Ghana Squad have
their first training session in Virginia. The session, held at the American University pitch, featured all 26 players in the squad under the instruction of head coach Carlos Queiroz and his backroom staff.
They will remain and train here for the next week, until they depart for Rhode
Island.
Thursday, 11 June 2026 - Ghana have arrived in Providence, Rhode Island, for the final phase of preparations. The team departed Virginia
this afternoon and touched down at T.F. Green International Airport in Rhode Island at about
six o'clock tonight.
The camp in Virginia included intensive sessions at the American University and
D.C. United training ground and a farewell dinner with the Ghanaian community in
Alexandria.
Friday, 12 June 2026 - Carlos Queiroz and his squad resumed training
today as they fine-tune preparations for their opening Group L game against Panama. Thomas Partey will miss his
Ghana's first World Cup game in Toronto, after being denied entry to Canada.
Partey, 32, has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of rape and one count of sexual assault relating to allegations by four different women between 2020 and 2022.
He is due to stand trial next year.
