Tuesday 10am, 26
May 2026 - Head Coach Thomas Christiansen
announced the
squad at a special presentation on the outskirts of the Panama Canal Administration Building, in the Balboa area, Ancón. The list includes 24 players who play in leagues abroad and two from the Panamanian Football League (LPF).
Players who were not included in the final list
but will remain in the party as reserves.
They are: José Murillo, Iván Anderson, Victor Griffith and Kadir Barría. The
squad will be traveling to Rio de Janeiro on Thursday to prepare for the
friendly on Sunday against the Verdeamarela.
In Brazil, about four players are scheduled to join the party.
The players are: Kadir Barría, Jorge Gutierrez, Luis Mejía and Jiovany Ramos.
Gutierrez will play the Copa Libertadores tomorrow with his club Deportivo La Guaira, against the Fluminense club.
Afterwhich, Gutierrez will join the squad the next day at the hotel in Rio de Janeiro.
Defender Ramos will also be joining the party on Thursday in Rio de Janeiro, after
playing in the South American Cup match with his club, the Academy of Puerto Cabello,
also tomorrow, against Atlético Mineiro.
Goalkeeper Luis Mejía will go to Brazil after playing tomorrow in the Copa Libertadores with Nacional against Coquimbo.
All three players, along with Kadir Barría, will be with the team in Rio
de Janeiro from May 28 to prepare for the friendly on Sunday at the Maracaná Stadium.
Captain Aníbal Godoy will remain in the United States with the midfielder joining with the team from June 4 when they travel to San Luis.
Midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla, who had to withdraw from the match last Sunday, during the Liga MX final, was included in the
squad.
Wednesday, 27 May 2026 - The
squad moves onto Burunga, Arraiján to train in the High Performance Center of the PFF. The
team of Panama receive the National Pavilion from the President of the Republic of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, in an event held in the Yellow Hall of the Presidency of the Republic.
The gift of the highest national symbol was received by defender, Eric Davis, representing the entire group of players, coaching staff and delegation that will represent the country.
During the meeting, Yoel Bárcenas also handed over an official shirt from Panama to the president, in a symbolic gesture of thanks for the support provided
on the historic World Cup road. President Mulino also took advantage of the moment to officially hand over the Panamanian passport to Thomas Christiansen to formalize his legal status as
a citizen. After the visit, the players and coaching staff visited the Cathedral Basilica Santa María La Antigua in the area of Old Town, where they received the blessing from the Archbishop of Panama, Monsignor José Domingo Ulloa in an emotional act.
Thursday, 28 May 2026 - The team complete
their last training session before 23 players make their evening trip to Rio de
Janeiro, including the three reserve players. The training, in the morning, is
at the Centro de Alto Performance (CAR) of PANDEPORTES, in Juan Díaz. In

at the hotel. Adalberto Carrasquilla and Azarías Londoño will not be making the
trip to Rio de Janeiro and will remain in Panama doing work with the doctors and
physical therapists. Carrasquilla joined the team yesterday morning and work is
being carried out in the hotel. Goalkeeper Luis Mejía is scheduled to travel to
Panama and will be reporting with the groups of physios at the hotel. The match
against Brazil will mark a historic moment for Panama, the first time they will
play at the emblematic Estadio Maracaná.
Friday, 29 May 2026 - After a seven-hour
flight, the first training
session takes place at 4:00pm (local time), in Moacyr Barbosa High Performance Center, the facilities of Basque club of Gama,
involving 26 players. The training session lasted approximately 90 minutes and developed under a slight drizzle that accompanied much of the practice. Despite the rain, the squad worked with intensity and showed an atmosphere of much motivation prior to the commitment to the Brazilian team.
Goalkeeper John Gunn has been drafted in by Thomas Christiansen and will be joining the
squad tonight.
The New England Revolution goalkeeper was called upon as an option for the friendlies against Brazil and the Dominican Republic, given that goalkeeper Luis Mejía is
undergoing a personal programme with therapists in Panama City.
Sunday, 31 May 2026 - Brazil 6 Panama 2 - Vinicius Jr turned the Maracana into his personal welcome-home party, scoring a dazzling early goal and setting up another to fire Brazil to a 6-2 friendly win over Panama as the five-times world champions sharpened their claws before the World Cup.
With the 2026 World Cup less than two weeks away, Brazil were without Neymar, who is expected to miss their June 13 opener against Morocco with a calf injury, while Gabriel Magalhaes, Marquinhos and Gabriel Martinelli were also absent after Saturday's Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. That left the spotlight on local boy Vinicius, back at the stadium he once called home while emerging from Flamengo's academy. He needed less than two minutes to deliver.
After Casemiro blocked Panama's attempt to play out from the back, Vinicius seized the loose ball, charged towards goal and rifled a fierce strike from the edge of the box into the top left corner.
Panama briefly spoiled the script in the 14th minute when Michael Murillo's free kick deflected off Matheus Cunha in the wall, wrongfooting Alisson and rolling inside the left post to hush the crowd.
But Vinicius restored order with a dazzling run from the left in the 39th minute, gliding past two defenders before crossing for Casemiro to head home. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti changed almost the entire team at halftime, leaving only centre back Leo Pereira from his starting lineup, and the replacements quickly joined the fun.
Seven minutes after the restart, Orlando Mosquera's muddled attempt to play with his feet gifted Rayan the ball, and he tapped into an empty net.
Lucas Paqueta made it 4-1 in the 60th minute with a curling effort that deflected past Mosquera, before Igor Thiago added the fifth from the spot three minutes later after the Panama goalkeeper brought him down.
Danilo added the sixth in the 81st minute with a shot from inside the box, before Carlos Harvey replied three minutes later with a thunderous strike into the top corner.
Tuesday, 2 June 2026 - The Panama squad completed its last training before their
second friendly match tomorrow night against the Dominican Republic, a match that will
also serve as a farewell to the Panamanian public before embarking on their trip to the United States to continue their preparations.
The training session, at the Rommel Fernández Gutierrez Stadium, was attended by hundreds of fans who took advantage of the open day to accompany the festive atmosphere and great enthusiasm.
Wednesday, 3 June 2026 - Panama 4 Dominican
Republic 2 - Panama wrapped up their home preparations with an entertaining 4-2 victory over the Dominican Republic before departing for the United States.
The farewell match, played in front of a packed home crowd, gave Thomas Christiansen's side a confidence boost ahead of their final pre-World Cup friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Panama opened the scoring inside the first 15 minutes following a well-worked move involving Cesar Yanis, Jose Fajardo and Cristian Martinez.
After Fajardo's initial effort was blocked, the ball fell kindly to Tomas Rodriguez, who calmly slotted home to put the hosts ahead.
The Central Americans doubled their advantage before halftime when Victor Griffith's long-range strike took a significant deflection, leaving the Dominican goalkeeper with no chance.
Christiansen made several changes after the break, but Panama maintained their attacking threat. Mariano Diaz pulled one back for the visitors shortly after the restart with a composed finish following a diagonal run into the penalty area.
Cecilio Waterman then capitalised on a defensive mix-up between the goalkeeper and a defender to score Panama's third goal of the evening.
The Dominican Republic responded again with a goal from Erick Japa after a defensive lapse, but Panama had the final say as Kadir Barria capped an impressive performance by converting from close range following a pass from Erick Davis.
The victory extends Panama's positive momentum as they continue preparations for the World Cup.
Thursday, 4 June 2026 - The squad arrive
in St. Louis tonight to begin preparations for their final friendly match before
the FIFA World Cup. Prior to departure, the delegation received an emotional farewell at the Tocumen International Airport, organized by Copa Airlines. The event was attended by players, coaching staff, managers and collaborators of both institutions, who provided a warm display of support and affection to the team representing all of Panama.
After the farewell, the team boarded, to take a charter flight of approximately four hours and thirty minutes to the United States. The delegation landed in St. Louis around 8:00pm, to later move to
their hotel, where he had dinner and rested after the trip. They were met at the
hotel by Hannibal Godoy, to bring the squad up to its full 26-man compliment.
Friday, 5 June 2026 - The Panama squad
held its official training at Energizer Park in St. Louis, where they will face Bosnia
& Herzegovina tomorrow. The practice began at 4:00pm local time, and served to finalise tactical and physical details for
the fixture.
Saturday, 6 June 2026 - Bosnia &
Herzegovina 1 Panama 1 - The Men's senior team drew 1-1 today against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their last friendly match before their debut at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match was played at Energizer Park in Saint Louis, in a high-level atmosphere with a packed stadium and a prominent presence of Bosnian fans, but also with numerous Panamanians who made their support felt during the 90 minutes.
The team led by Thomas Christiansen showed personality and character to a demanding European rival. After seeing himself down on the scoreboard, Panama finally
equalised in the final minutes of the first half thanks to Giovany Ramos, who took advantage of a stop-to-ball action to send the ball to the bottom of the net and establish the final 1-1.
Sunday, 7 June 2026 - The
squad flew to Toronto this morning. Once landed, they traveled to its camp at the Nottawasaga Training Site, located in New Tecumseth, Ontario.
Panama arrived in Canada with 28 players, the 26 called for the FIFA World Cup and two reserves, John Gunn and Victor Griffith.
Kadir Barría has returned home.
