On Friday, 15 November 1952, The New Musical Express published the first ever singles chart in the UK, comprising the twelve highest selling singles of the week, it increased to twenty on Friday, 1 October 1954, and thirty on Friday, 13 April 1956. On 10 March 1960, the chart increased to fifty singles and now published by The Record Retailer. When England drew with Yugoslavia, The Everly Brothers' Cathy's Clown was the best selling single for its first of seven weeks. When the Top Fifty chart of Thursday, 5 May 1960 was published, there were 24 surviving songs from the last chart when England played four weeks ago. The Top Forty is thus:-
