Club Career

Club(s) As a Godmanchester Rovers trainee, Bent joined Ipswich Town FC as a fourteen year old trainee, before signing professionally on 2 July 2001. He made 122 league appearances, scoring 48 times. Signed for Charlton Athletic FC on 1 June 2005 for £2.5 million and made 68 Premier League appearances, scoring another 31 goals. It was enough to get him signed by Tottenham Hotspur FC on 29 June 2007 in a £16.5 million deal after he had turned down a move to West Ham United FC. Following sixty Premier League appearances and a return of eighteen goals, Bent was allowed to sign for Sunderland AFC on 5 August 2009, for an eventual £16.5 million fee.  After a seemingly unhappy period, making 58 Premier League appearances, scoring 32 goals, Bent joined Aston Villa FC on 18 January 2011 for £18 million, rising to £24 million. He had made 54 Premier League appearances, scoring 21 times. Despite being linked with Newcastle United FC, Bent joined Fulham FC on a season-long loan on 16 August 2013, making 24 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals, not enough to save them from relegation. Bent was sent out on loan again, firstly to Brighton & Hove Albion FC on 26 November 2014, scoring twice in five Championship appearances, then on 2 January 2015, to Derby County FC, scoring ten in fifteen Championship appearances. After being released by Villa on 8 June 2015, Bent re-joined Derby in a permanent deal, and scored a further twelve goals in 58 Championship appearances. Without playing any further matches for County in 2017-18, Bent joined Burton Albion FC on loan for the rest of the season on 26 January 2018, but his two goals in fifteen Championship appearances, was not enough to save Burton from relegation. He was released by County on 18 May 2018. Bent announced his retirement from playing on 25 July 2019.
