Arthur R, is the third of fourth children to William and Clara A., living
at 1 Cromwell Street in Leicester, where his father is a licensed victualler. |

According to the 1911 census,
Arthur Reginald is one of three children with their father, who has
remarried, to Maria, whom they have one child, Thomas Archibald, they all
live at 26 Moores Road in Leicester. Arthur is a polisher at the
engineers, where his father is a Turner. According to his Royal
Army Service Corps records, Dorrell, an engineers fitter, enlisted on 24
October 1914, and still living at 26 Moores Road. He was demobilised on 20
May 1919, living at 171 Melton Road in the town. |

professional footballer (for Aston Villa FC) and is the oldest of the
three children (all with different mothers) living at home with his father
and yet another new wife, Alice Frederica, with which they had WIlliam Ray

Playing Career |
Club(s) |
Began his
football career with Leicester Schools, and playing for Carey Hill FC, a
Leicester Sunday School side. Played football with the RASC and after
featuring in the British Expeditionary Force team against Aldershot FC, he
joined Aston Villa FC after the war in May 1919. After 355 league
appearances, and sixty goals, he was signed by
Port Vale FC alongside Dicky York on 3 June 1931 for a substantial fee
after being placed on the open-to-transfer list at the end of the previous
season. He retired a year later, having played in 34 league
appearances and scored five times. |
